New Year's Eve "Hollyweed" Sign Blows Up Social Media
January 4, 2017 | by Staff
Only a few days into the New Year and already the buzz around New Year’s resolutions is starting to subside – just like the urgency to get to the gym by so many out there vowing to do better.
In fact, according to international social media analytics firm Talkwalker, after peaking at 3,700 mentions at 2 p.m. on January 1, the social buzz around New Year’s resolutions has been steadily dropping to approximately 650 mentions at the same time 3 days later on January 4.
Not surprisingly, topics related to weight loss, better eating and wellness have dominated the social media world in posts focused on New Year’s resolutions. Hashtags like #fitness, #weightloss, #workout, #healthy and #gym are joined by #motivation, #nutrition, #fit, #vegan and #bodybuilding making the conversation almost fully about fitness and weight loss.
But resolutions weren’t the only things on the minds of social media users. The changing of the Hollywood Sign to “Hollyweed” generated nearly 720,000 social media posts in a very short window of time, including 44,000 Retweets and 92,000 likes as a result of this Tweet from popular trend spotting site Common White Girl.
